Saturday, September 27, 2003
Syracuse, N.Y. • Carrier Dome
R.J. Anderson's second completion of the game marked the 100th consecutive pass in which he has not thrown an interception. Anderson and Donovan McNabb (133 and 130) are the only two SU quarterbacks ever to have streaks of 100 passes or better without throwing an interception. Anderson has now gone 121 passes without being picked off.
Collin Barber's first-quarter field goal was the 22nd of his career, moving him into sole possession of seventh place on the Orangemen's all-time list, passing George Jakowenko. Barber's second extra point moved him into sixth place on the SU career ledger with 67, passing Jakowenko.
Walter Reyes' 61-yard touchdown run in the first quarter extended his streak of games with at least one rushing touchdown to nine games. He is now one game short of tying Jim Nance's record of 10 set in 1964. The 61-yard score was SU's longest rush of the season.
Reyes'43-yard touchdown run in the second quarter tied him with Ernie Davis and Dee Brown for third on the SU career list with 28. It also moved him past Joe Morris for fifth place on the Orange's all-time total touchdown list (28).
Reyes had 148 yards in the first half, marking the second straight half in which he ran for more than 100 yards. He had 160 yards in the second half versus UCF. Reyes finished with 162 and now has nine career 100-yard games, giving him sole possession of ninth place on SU's all-time list.
Reyes had five receptions in the game, breaking his career high of three set in the 2003 opener against North Carolina.
Lenny Cusumano's two-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter was the first of his career.
Cusumano's touchdown catch capped a 14-play, 80-yard drive that took 6:41 off the clock. It was SU's longest drive of the season in both plays and time of possession.
Syracuse's defense recorded its first first-half shutout since the Virginia Tech game in 2001.
Joe Kowalewski's third-quarter reception was the first of the season and second of his career.
Johnnie Morant's 29-yard third-quarter reception was his first of the game, extending his streak to 21 consecutive games with at least one catch.
Damien Rhodes, playing for the first time since the Louisville game, had a career-high four receptions.
Kellen Pruitt and Thomas Whitfield sacked Toledo quarterback Bruce Gradkowski with 6:35 left in the fourth quarter. It was SU's first sack of the season.
