Senior rover Paul Dye blocked a Syracuse punt in the second quarter. It was his first blocked kick of the season and the fifth blocked punt of his career. The last time he blocked a punt was last year against Marshall.
In the third quarter, Dye forced and recovered a SU fumble. It was his third fumble recovery of the season.
Free safety Patrick Body did not dress against Syracuse due to a leg injury.
Senior punter Brandon Hannum had a 54-yard punt in the first half against the Orangemen. It was the fourth time in five games this season that he has kicked a punt of 50 or more yards.
Senior Anthony Abron forced a fumble for the first time this season in the third quarter against Syracuse. Senior cornerback Brandon Hefflin recovered the loose ball for his first fumble recovery of the year.
Near the end of the third quarter, sophomore quarterback Bruce Gradkowski tossed a 35-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Lance Moore. It was the 11th time this season Gradkowski passed for a touchdown. He has passed for at least one touchdown in all five games this season. For Moore, it marked his fifth touchdown of the season, his third on the receiving end. It was the second consecutive game Moore caught a touchdown pass.
Sophomore placekicker Jason Robbins converted his PAT to improve to 16-of-17 on the season in that department.
