SU v. St. Bonaventure
Wednesday, December 1, 2004
Opening Statements:
“I thought we had an opportunity to get everybody a lot of time after finishing the tournament in New York. It was good to get everybody out there. We weren’t real sharp in some areas. These games can help us get better. This is an opportunity for our young guys to get back and play. Billy got an opportunity to get back and play a little bit. He’s been away from the game a long time now competitively, and I think this is the kind of opportunity he needed to get back into what we are doing. Overall, there were some good things, and some things that we can go back to practice and work on.”
On the return of junior guard Billy Edelin:
“He’s had some practices, but he’s really been away a long time. It takes a while to get your timing back in basketball, but he understands the game and he just needs a few games to get back to himself.”
On the play of sophomore guard Louie McCroskey and sophomore center Darryl Watkins:
“I thought they both made shots. It’s the first opportunity we played extended man-to-man. We haven’t played man-to-man for three or four games really, and it shows. We made some defensive mistakes that we can go back and work on. St. Bonaventure is a small quick team. They are hard to guard. They put the ball on the court pretty well. It’s a difficult adjustment for some of our bigger guys, but they can learn from some of the things we didn’t do on the defensive end tonight.”
On the versatility of senior guard Josh Pace:
“He’s a good player. He can score, rebound, play defense, make plays, and that’s what he does. He’s just a good basketball player. He’s a veteran player who has been in a lot of games and he understands how to play the game. He comes to play every day.”
On the play of the freshman guard Josh Wright
“Josh made some real good decisions tonight and made a couple of real good plays. Josh had a rough few minutes against Albany, but he came back tonight. He made some real good decisions out there and good plays.”
