Chris Cercy holds the SU record for best face-off winning percentage in a season with .711 (2000). He also has the third-highest percentage on the same list with .692 (2001) and the eighth-highest with .582 (1999). He is a two-time All-American and helped Syracuse lead the nation as a team in face-off winning percentage in 2000 (.677). Cercy also ranks second (253 in 2000) and third (245 in 2001) on SU’s single season face-off wins list. He ranks third (356 in 2000) and fourth (354 in 2001) on SU’s single season face-off attempts list.
Senior Year (2001): STX/USILA Third-Team All-American…played in all 16 games…won 245-of-354 face-offs for a winning percentage of .692…third on the team in recovered groundballs (72)…scored four goals and had 1 assist…scored two goals against Georgetown in the last regular season game to help SU win 19-9…won 12-of-20 face-off attempts in the semifinals against Notre Dame.
Junior Year (2000): STX/USILA Honorable Mention All-American…led the nation with a .711 face-off winning percentage (253-of-356)…won 253 of the team’s 289 winning face-offs…played in all 16 games…took eight shots and scored three goals…collected 57 groundballs, the fifth-highest total on the team…scored his first collegiate goal at home against Georgetown in the final regular season game…tallied two goals in the national semifinals against Johns Hopkins by winning the draw, getting the groundball and going right to goal…won a season-high 28 face-offs versus Georgetown in the Carrier Dome…won 19-of-21 draws at Brown.
Sophomore Year (1999): Won 89-of-153 face-off attempts for a winning percentage of just more than 58 percent…played in 16 games…recovered 17 groundballs…won a season-high 11 face-offs against Yale.
Freshman Year (1998): Played in 13 games…won 35 face-offs on the season, second most on the team.
High School: Attended Bethpage High School…three-year lacrosse letterwinner…also lettered in football…high school teammate of fellow SU player Brian Solliday…scored 20 goals and had 25 assists as a senior…scored 40 career goals and had 48 career assists…team won New York State Championship as a junior…All-Area as a senior…Most Improved Player as a senior.
Personal: Born November 28, 1978 in Long Island, N.Y….son of Ron and Mary Cercy…two older brothers…his brother, Ron, was the primary face-off man for C.W. Post’s national championship team in 1995…majored in finance.
