Bob Curran was president of Sigma Chi Fraternity and St. Thomas More Chapel in 1954. He belonged to the Orange Key Junior Men’s Honorary and the Tau Theta Upsilon Senior Men’s Honorary.
Bob served in the United States Army Field Artillery as a lieutenant from 1955 to 1957.
Bob had a long and successful career in the telecommunications industry from the mid-fifties through his retirement in 1990. He held the positions of district manager and division manager of operations for the New York Telephone Company; division manager of human resources for AT&T Company, Inc.; and director of human resources for the Rochester Telephone Company.
Bob was chairman of the Monroe County Affirmative Action Committee from 1975 to 1978; a member of the Finance Committee of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra from 1985 to 1989; and a fund raiser for the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery, United Way, YMCA and the American Hear Association. He has served on the Liturgical Committee of the St. Louis Church in Pittsford, New York and was vice president of Pittsford’s Little League and Pop Warner Football programs. Bob belongs to the Rochester Chapter of New York State Swimming Officials. He chaired the Personnel Committee of the New York State Telephone Association and was a member of the Human Resources Committee for the United States Telecommunications Association.
Bob served on the board of directors of the SU Alumni Club of Rochester and was club vice president from 1985-88. He has been a Varsity Club member since 1960 and a loyal contributor to the Orange Pack’s Crew and Swimming Funds, SARA and the Fund for Syracuse for several decades. Five of Bob’s eight children and his wife, Mary Heinrich ’55, have degrees from Syracuse.
