Brinkley Caps Career with Stellar Senior Season
Senior running back Curtis Brinkley rushed 16 times for 60 yards in his final collegiate game Saturday at Cincinnati … He finished the season ranked fifth on SU’s single-season rushing list with 1,164 yards.
Dantley Moves into Top 10 at SU in Career Touchdown Passes
Junior quarterback Cameron Dantley threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Dan Sheeran with 6:06 remaining in regulation … It was Dantley’s 16th career touchdown pass, tying him with Todd Philcox (1985-88) for 10th on the Orange’s career list … The TD reception was the first of Sheeran’s career.
Long Records Third-Best Season Punting Average in School History
Sophomore punter Rob Long concluded the 2008 season with a 43.9 average, the third-best season mark in Syracuse history ... Long kicked 66 times for 2,898 yards in 2008 …. His yardage total lists fifth on the SU season record list …. Long has 6,037 career punting yards, which is seventh on the Orange career ledger … His 66 punts in 2008 is tied for ninth with Jim Dragotta (1948) on the Orange’s season list.
Holmes Moves Up Career Kick Returns List
Sophomore defensive back Mike Holmes returned seven kickoffs for 161 yards at Cincinnati … He ranks fifth on Syracuse’s career kickoff return chart with 55 returns.
Shadle Finishes Career as Syracuse Most Accurate Kicker
Senior placekicker Patrick Shadle ended his career Saturday as the most accurate kicker in SU history … Shadle connected on 80 percent of his field-goal attempts (40/50) for his career … Shadle made a 33-yard field goal in the second quarter to pass Orange legend Jim Brown (187 points) on the school’s career scoring list … Shadle finished with 189 career points.
Syracuse Sacks Bearcats
The Orange recorded 4.0 sacks Saturday at Cincinnati … Senior defensive linemen Nick Santiago and Vincenzo Giruzzi, senior linebacker Jake Flaherty and sophomore safety Max Suter each got to the quarterback once … Santiago posted 4.5 sacks in 2008 to lead the team … Flaherty’s sack against Cincinnati was his first of the season.

Sophomore Anthony Perkins made his first start Saturday at defensive end in place of Jared Kimmel … He made two tackles (one solo, one assisted).
Odds and Ends
Suter also recorded a personal best Saturday with eight total tackles (six solo, two assisted) … Freshman corner Dorian Graham tied his career best with four tackles (three solo, one assisted) … Senior fullback Tony Fiametta had a career-long 58-yard gain in the second quarter to set up Syracuse’s first scoring drive … Senior safety Paul Chiara forced the first fumble of his career in the third period to thwart a Cincinnati drive … Holmes recovered it at the Syracuse 49 … It was Holmes’ team-leading fourth fumble recovery of the season … Holmes also intercepted his second pass of the year Saturday, tying Bruce Williams for the team lead … Redshirt freshman tight end Nick Provo made a career-long 27-yard reception on fourth down in the final quarter to help set up SU’s only touchdown.
