College football coaching legend Howard Jones got his start at Syracuse in 1906, putting together a 6-3-1 record before moving on to Yale, his alma mater. While at SU, he coached Marquis (Bill) Horr, Syacuse's first All-America selection. The 1908 campaign was the ninth straight winning season for the Orange and was capped by a 28-4 win against Michigan. By the time he finished coaching in 1940, Jones would compile an all-time record of 194-64-21 (.733) at SU, Yale, Ohio State, Iowa, Duke and The University of Southern California.
In 1951, he was enshrined with fellow former Syracuse coach Frank "Buck" O'Neill as part of the inaugural class of the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana.
