Position: Line Coach
College Football Hall of Fame Class of 1969
Bud Wilkinson is revered as a mainstay of the Oklahoma Sooners football program and one of the greatest coaches in modern college football history. What most people don't know is that Wilkinson got his start at Syracuse as an assistant under Ossie Solem. The Orange went 16-12-4 with Wilkinson guiding the offensive and defensive lines. In 1947, Wilkinson accepted the head coaching position for the Sooners.
Wilkinson set a new standard for college football coaching while at Oklahoma, compiling a career record of 145-29-4 with three National Championships. Between 1953 and 1957, the Sooners didn't lose a single game under Wilkinson; the span of 47 consecutive victories is the longest winning streak to this day, and no team has come within ten wins of it. Wilkinson's teams also went nearly 12 seasons without a conference loss.
Wilkinson retired in 1963, and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1969.
