Tad Jones and his brother, Howard, are the first brothers to be inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame. Howard was enshrined in 1951, while Tad was inducted seven years later. After playing together in prep school and later at Yale, the two would eventually square off against each other as coaches on October 2, 1909, in New Haven. Howard's Yale team bested Tad's Orange squad 15-0. After the 1910 season, Jones took a break from coaching.
In 1916, Jones took the reigns of the Yale football program that his brother had previously steered. Jones coached the Elis for ten seasons, compiling a record of 60-15-4, before his retirement in 1927.
