Syracuse Student-Athlete Quotes
Syracuse vs. Georgetown
February 26, 2008
Carrier Dome – Syracuse, N.Y.
Nicole Michael, Sophomore, F
On winning the game
“It feels great. We just had the momentum, the confidence and the momentum towards the end of the game. We just came out and played with pride like coach told us to, and we got it done.”
On Erica [Morrow]’s shot
“At first I thought she missed the shot, and I thought it’s ok, we’ll get it back, we have to win. But, it went in and I was so happy. Erica doesn’t usually show emotion on the court, but she was so happy, it was a great feeling.”
On the importance of winning games late in the season
“We need to seal the deal. We want to be in the NCAA tournament. So, we have to keep winning, we have to keep playing hard.”
On coming back to win
“There isn’t any better way to win than playing physical and playing hard. Whoever wanted it more, pretty much got it.”
On if she believed the team could come back and win
“I personally didn’t have any doubts. My heart was pumping and I was very excited. I was to the point where I told myself, we have to get this. We played hard and we got it.”
On the Rutgers game
“Rutgers is a great team, we have to bring our heart and our pride like coach said. We have to bring the intensity and we have to play hard.”
On Georgetown’s play inside
“They’re big inside, and they’re very physical. So, they got the ball inside a lot, and they scored a lot.”
Erica Morrow, Freshman, G
On if she thought her shot would go in
“I had confidence in it, it went straight up, so we had a chance, and we had a chance at the rebound. I knew we were only down by two, and that our girls down low were boxing out, and if it didn’t go in, we had the rebound.”
On the setup for the shot
“It was the same play we ran for the UCONN game, an out of bounds play. They wanted me to take the shot, and hopefully it went in.”
On what it felt like after the shot went in
“It felt good, but I knew we still had a lot of time left on the clock. Coach got us together and we knew we had to lockdown and get a stop on defense.”
On getting “revenge” on Georgetown
“I wouldn’t call it revenge. It was just another game we had to play. Of course we wanted to win. Losing the first game obviously put a little more fuel in the fire. I think coming down the stretch, we just want to continue winning, and go as far into the postseason as possible.”
On her confidence after the last shot in the UCONN game
“I didn’t think about it during the game, but I have thought about it. I have thought about missing it, and the opportunity it would have presented us in beating the number one team in the country. But I also had confidence in the play and coach told me he would run the play again. I thought I owed it to my team to do the best I could to make that shot.”
On preparing to play on the college level
“I think it was the preseason preparation from coach. It’s not just playing basketball and getting in shape. They teach us the game and put us in different situations. He challenges us everyday and makes us a better team, and better basketball players.”
On being underrated
“I think we’re being doubted. But, it drives us more to just prove everyone wrong. Just to know they think we can’t compete, I think that drives us more and makes us play harder.”
