Syracuse Postgame Player Quotes
Syracuse Women’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Binghamton
Sunday, November 22, 2009
Carrier Dome
Erica Morrow, Junior, Guard
On the inside outside game:
“I think we did really well. I mean with (senior forward Nicole Michael) being so hot, it’s so hard for me to not keep giving her the ball. I think that stretched their defense out a little bit and opened it up for our post inside and I think we did execute a lot of our plays today to the T. That makes for a good inside outside game.”
On how she stayed hot with the outside game:
“Practice and just being hot. When we have a player who is hot we just keep giving her the ball and hopefully they keep making it. (Nicole Michael) was hot, so I had nine assists.”
On practice this week:
“Like Coach (Hillsman) said, he wasn’t too happy and we weren’t happy with ourselves with how we performed last game. We got in there and just went hard, played real physical. We just got up and down the floor a lot. We don’t have a lot of light days here at Syracuse.”
Carmen Tyson-Thomas, Freshman, Guard
On her performance:
“I think I did okay. I played to my best.”
On her playing time:
“You just have to compete in practice. We all push each other in practice, so as long as you play hard you know you are going to earn your minutes.”
On practice the past few days:
“Practice was kind of hard, a lot of running. It’s something I’m going to get used to.”
On earning her minutes in practice:
“We knew we didn’t play the way we wanted to play, so in practice we turned it up and that had an effect on the way we played today because we knew we wanted to play much better than what we did before.”
Nicole Michael, Senior, Forward
On her performance and confidence:
“I’m always comfortable shooting 3-pointers because I am confident, and I worked on that all summer. I am definitely comfortable and I am going to take it every time I am open.”
On whether her confidence increased throughout the game:
“I know where my head is and my confidence level and I’m going to make it. I’m just going to keep shooting it.”
On her 3-point field goals:
“There were a couple contested, but in that case Coach always taught me to pass the ball around and I’ll probably get it back again. But, if it was contested, I tried not to shoot it much as you guys noticed. But I shot it and I made it.”
On how Binghamton played on her:
“We played as a team and moved the ball. They played me accordingly to scouting. They played me too far on the shoot, and played me too close on the drive. It was hard to guard me in that situation.”
On her 36 points:
“I’m going to keep playing hard and competing. I didn’t even notice I had that many points, honestly. I was just playing.”
On her rebounding:
“Coach (Rick) Moody kills me on that. He makes sure I rebound. We have a bet that if I get over 10 rebounds, he gives me candy. So I am just going to keep rebounding and crashing the boards because I like candy.”
On if she knew how many points she had by halftime:
“No, I really didn’t. I just kept on shooting and just kept on playing hard. I didn’t even notice. It’s crazy.”
On her importance to the team:
“Coach has made it clear to me that it is important for me to score. I am a big factor on the team, so I am just going to keep playing hard and score. And the team plays around me sometimes. Everyone plays hard.”
On whether she likes playing in tournaments:
“First of all, I think it is fun to go to different places. It helps us bond together as a team. We are all together in the hotel and just playing together on and off the court and being cool with each other. We have to get comfortable playing away because we haven’t played away yet, so that is going to be a new thing, especially for the freshmen.”
On playing back-to-back games:
“It’s definitely good to play back-to-back. I’m sore right now, I’m not going to lie to you guys. But, you know in the BIG EAST Tournament, NCAA Tournament you play, and if you win, you probably play the next day, so Coach always prepares us for that.”
On practice over the past week:
“Coach was very upset after the Alabama State game. He felt we didn’t play that well. He killed us, I’m not going to lie, he killed us. I was very sore and I was just playing through it.”
