Senior center Jim McKenzie returned to the starting lineup after missing the previous three games with a hand injury … Senior Ryan Bartholomew moved back to left guard and senior Adam Rosner started at right guard in place of the suspended Andrew Tiller … Defensively, senior Nico Scott returned to the starting lineup at cornerback in place of Kevyn Scott, who missed the game due to injury.
Senior running back Delone Carter broke off a career-long 58-yard run in the first quarter and finished with 143 rushing yards against the Panthers … It was the fourth 100-yard rushing game of his career and his second this season (Akron) … He also had a 22-yard reception Saturday.
Pitt entered Saturday’s game allowing 0.88 sacks per game … Syracuse recorded two in the first half (Doug Hogue, Mikhail Marinovich).
Junior tight end Cody Catalina tied his personal-best with three receptions for 20 yards against the Panthers … Catalina left the game in the first half with a knee injury and did not return.
Junior strong safety Max Suter suffered an arm injury in the first half Saturday and did not return … He recorded six tackles (four solo) before leaving the game.
Freshman strong safety Philip Thomas replaced Suter in the defensive backfield and made six tackles, a personal best.
Senior receiver Donte Davis rushed for a career-best 33 yards on three carries, including a 20-yard scamper in the second quarter.
Sophomore tight end Carl Cutler’s 17-yard reception in the third quarter was the first catch of his career.
Sophomore running back Averin Collier scored his first career touchdown on a one-yard plunge late in the fourth quarter.
Pitt running back Dion Lewis rushed for 110 yards Saturday ... He is the first opposing ball carrier to rush for 100 yards against the Orange in this season (nine games).
