Head Coach Gary Gait Quotes
Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse
Syracuse vs. Cincinnati
March 29, 2009
Carrier Dome/ Syracuse, N.Y.
Head Coach Gary Gait
Opening remarks:
“It was a good weekend for us, to be at home, back in the Dome, and to play a couple of BIG EAST games. It was a nice chance to demonstrate what we have been working on and to play. I thought our team played pretty well over the weekend and then, to move on, and get everyone in both games was awesome. It was a nice job, good execution and a fun weekend of lacrosse for us.”
On facing two developing programs and his goals for this weekend:
“Execution – to go out there with our game plan to get it done and we did. To provide an opportunity to go deep in the lineup and let some younger players get some experience. It was good for the team, it was good for everybody.”
On the development of young programs in the BIG EAST Conference:
“They are getting there. The BIG EAST does a great job of demanding excellence of their schools and our conference will continue to gain experience and to grow. We are certainly in the top three conferences in the country and will strive to be number one.”
On Christina Dove getting her 200th career point today:
“Christina is a very good player that works hard every day, trying to improve and get better. It was nice to see her reach that milestone, just playing the game that she loves to play. She has had a great career so far and hopefully she will continue that and throw up a few more points.”
On if the team has reached its goal of firing on all cylinders:
“This game brought us a little closer. I think we played pretty well but we haven’t had that game where we just feel that we executed well, shot well, did everything the way we wanted to. We are getting closer and today was better. Now we move on and move forward and face a stronger opponent in Georgetown. That’s a type of game where you want to execute, very similar to what we did in the Dome last year against them. We want to go down to Georgetown and play our best game of the year.”
On the similarities between the two games this weekend:
“I think since we played Cincinnati last year it was a little different than Louisville, since it was our first time playing them. We knew a little bit more about them and they are definitely improving; they are a little more athletic than they were last year. I think they will continue to improve and we just went out there to try to play our game and execute and we did. I was very happy with the performance today.”
