Syracuse vs. Notre Dame
April 11, 2009
Carrier Dome/ Syracuse, N.Y.
Christina Dove, Jr., M
On if she thought Notre Dame was going to make a comeback:
“We knew that Notre Dame was a great team and they weren’t going to play the same way as they did in the first half. We were expecting them to come out strong, but I think we could have responded a little better and hustled after all the ground balls and draw controls. We could have finished our shots and played with a little more composure when they started coming back.”
On when in the game she thought Notre Dame might make a comeback:
“It’s a long game, so we knew that they were going to come back eventually. They weren’t just going to roll over and let us beat them by that much. We were kind of expecting it. But we also knew that we had what it took to withstand it.”
Liz Hogan, So., GK
On what was going through her mind during the last 30 seconds:
“I am just trying to focus on the ball. You have to think positively. If you think you can save it, then you will save it. You see her coming down, you watch the ball and you just make a save. You just do it.”
On if there were times when she was frustrated in the second half:
“Yes, completely. I made many mistakes, I definitely own up to that. I think our defense lost composure but we picked it back up and got out with a win.”
On what point in the game did she think Notre Dame might make a comeback:
“I think as a player, it’s always in the back of your mind that they can come back. But as a team you think you have it in the bag and that you have to keep on pushing it. You don’t ever let that creep into your mind that they could come back. You think that we are going to get the ball and we are going to do what we want to do and we are going to take care of the game.”
On the defense in the second half:
“I think that we didn’t have composure and the communication was a little less than what we expected. Overall, I thought we did a good job at coming back and pulling out what we needed to do. We had our struggles, but at the end of the day, we did what needed to be done.”
Bridget Looney, Sr., M\
On the difference between the first half and the second half:
“We didn’t remain calm in the situation. We let them control the game and we got frantic. We played their game and not our game.”
On how hard it was to keep their composure mentally when Notre Dame started its comeback:
“It was definitely very hard. It’s working on your mental toughness, that’s something you have to work at. I think after the goal was scored, we had to bring it in and remind ourselves what we had to accomplish and let’s focus on the next step. Let’s get the ball and focus on the next play.”
On what the game did for the team’s confidence:
“It makes me pretty excited. It shows that we can do it and if we come out strong in the second half and finish like we did in the first half, then I personally think that we are unstoppable.”
