TEAM NOTES
• Syracuse became bowl-eligible for the first time since 2004 with its win at Rutgers Saturday.
• The victory guaranteed the first winning season for the Orange since 2001 when the team was 10-3.
• The Orange’s five road wins (at Akron, USF, West Virginia, Cincinnati and Rutgers) in opposing stadiums (no neutral sites) are the most for the team since 1992.
• Syracuse’s four 2010 BIG EAST Conference road wins (at USF, West Virginia, Cincinnati and Rutgers) are the most in school history. It also marks the fourth time the Orange has gone undefeated on the road in BIG EAST play (2010, 1996, 1992, 1991).
• The victory was Syracuse’s first road win against the Scarlet Knights since 2001. The Scarlet Knights had won the last three games between the two teams at Rutgers Stadium. The Orange is now 13-5 all-time versus Rutgers on the road.
• Syracuse’s four BIG EAST victories are the most for the Orange since it won six in 2001.
• Syracuse improved to 6-1 this season when leading at the half and 9-2 when ahead at the intermission in two years under head coach Doug Marrone.
• The Orange is 6-0 in 2010 when holding its opponent to less than 300 yards of total offense. Syracuse surrendered 280 total yards to the Scarlet Knights.
• Syracuse scored on all three of its red zone trips (1 TD, 2 FGs) against Rutgers. The Orange has come away with points on its last 14 straight trips inside its opponent's 20-yard line (6 TDs, 8 FGs) dating back to the Pittsburgh game on Oct. 16.
• Tight end Jose Cruz was the team’s game captain at Rutgers. He joined season captains Rob Long, Ryan Bartholomew and Derrell Smith at midfield for the opening coin toss.
• The Orange had two new starters at Rutgers. Marcus Sales made his first start of the year at wide receiver and Anthony Perkins made the second start of his career, and first of the season, at nose tackle. Sales replaced Alec Lemon in the lineup and Perkins was in place of Bud Tribbey.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Junior quarterback Ryan Nassib tied Donovan McNabb and Todd Philcox for fifth on SU’s record list for most TD passes in a season (16) with his four-yard touchdown toss to Antwon Bailey in the first quarter. In addition, Nassib tied Pat Stark and Bill Hurley for eighth in school history with 19 career TD passes. Nassib has at least one TD pass in every game this season.
• Nassib was 16-for-31 passing for 214 yards Saturday. He is now tied with Andrew Robinson for sixth on the SU single-season completions list (154) and ranks seventh on the Orange season ledger for pass attempts (277).
• Bailey had three catches for 18 yards at Rutgers. He now ranks fifth in career receptions by an Orange running back (52).
• Running back Delone Carter extended his streak to 190 carries without a fumble with 18 rushing attempts at Rutgers. Carter’s streak dates back to the 2009 season finale at Connecticut.
• Tight end Nick Provo matched his career long with a 33-yard reception in the first quarter.
• Punter Rob Long had five punts for 220 yards Saturday at Rutgers. He now has the second-most punts in school history (250), passing Mike Shafer (249).
• Kicker Ross Krautman booted two field goals, including a career-long 48-yarder in the third quarter. He also hit the game-winning 24-yard try with 1:07 to play. Krautman has made 13 straight field goals dating back to the Washington game on Sept. 11.
• Defensive end Chandler Jones tied his career high with two tackles for a loss.
• Linebacker Doug Houge recorded one tackle for a loss at Rutgers to move into a tie with Keith Bulluck for eighth on SU’s all-time list with 24 career tackles for a loss.
• Fullback Adam Harris had a career-long 19-yard reception in the third quarter.
• Receiver Adrian Flemming made his collegiate debut during SU’s second offensive series.
