TEAM NOTES
Saturday’s game marked Syracuse’s second trip to Husky Stadium. The first game in the series was in 1973 in Seattle. The Huskies won the game, 21-7.
The Orange coaches wore a patch on their shirts in memory of September 11, 2001.The patch was black and white and included the date, the New York City skyline and the words “Gone But Not Forgotten.” Head coach Doug Marrone lost teammate Tim Byrne in the attack. Byrne was one of 31 SU alums lost that day.
The Syracuse defense did not allow a touchdown in the first quarter, extending its streak to five quarters without an opponent crossing the goal line. Washington ended the steak with a touchdown with 4:09 remaining in the second quarter.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
Senior linebacker Doug Hogue joined 2010 team captains Ryan Bartholomew, Rob Long and Derrell Smith for the game tonight.
Freshman running back Prince-Tyson Gulley returned the opening kickoff a career-best 37 yards. Gulley finished with a career-high five returns for a career-best 138 yards.
Junior quarterback Ryan Nassib recorded his first career rushing touchdown on SU’s opening drive, taking the ball 28 yards around the left side.
Junior fullback Adam Harris proved to be an asset on special teams, recording his first career tackle following a Rob Long punt. Freshman linebacker Brice Hawkes also recorded his first career tackle following a Rob Long kickoff.
Senior wide receiver Aaron Weaver recorded a career-long 32-yard reception on Syracuse’s drive at the end of the second quarter. Weaver finished with a career-best four catches for a career-high 58 yards.
Junior wide receiver Van Chew registered a career-best six receptions for 83 yards.
Redshirt senior linebacker Derrell Smith recorded a career-best 14 tackles, including a career-high tying nine solo stops. He also forced a fumble in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore cornerback Phillip Thomas tallied a career-high 12 tackles, including a career-best 10 solo stops.
Freshman defensive end Jay Bromley made his first appearance for the Orange.
Junior wide receiver Dorian Graham returned his first career kickoff 25 yards during the game’s third quarter. Graham finished with three returns for 69 yards.
Senior cornerback Mike Holmes registered a career-long 31-yard punt return in the third quarter. Holmes finished with a career-best five returns for a career-high 56 yards.
Senior tight end Jose Cruz recorded a career-long 16-yard reception during the fourth quarter. It was his lone catch of the day.
Sophomore strong safety Shamarko Thomas recovered this first career fumble in the fourth quarter.
Senior tight end Nick Provo notched a career-best three receptions. He finished the day with three catches for 19 yards.
Sophomore quarterback Charlie Loeb made his first career appearance for the Orange. He went 2-for-2 for 22 yards.
