Carrier Dome - Syracuse, N.Y.
South Florida Student-Athlete Quotes
Redshirt junior linebacker Michael Lanaris
On what the win means for the season:
“We just wanted to come in and stay focused. We didn’t make too many mistakes. We had to bounce back and we did. It was great to get some momentum. The coaches deserved it. It gives us a lot of momentum going in to these next few weeks.
On stopping Syracuse in the fourth quarter:
“If they would have come away with six points there, it would have been a one-score game. They decided to go for it, and some balls bounced our way, and we were able to pull it out. Those were some critical points in the game. We know we are a good defense and it was nice to finally make some big stops and pull out the win.
Freshman wide receiver Andre Davis
On the offensive performance:
“The coaches have been pushing us so hard, so it’s no surprise we came out with the win.”
On B.J. Daniels:
“He is amazing. For all of the hard work he puts in, he deserves it. What he can do with his arm and with his feat is just awesome.
On the confidence of the younger student-athletes on the team:
“We have a lot of confidence. I got my first start last week. It’s the way we work and we deserve it. Every way, we go out there and work hard.”
Redshirt junior quarterback B.J. Daniels
On being able to secure the win in the second half:
“We really put the pedal to the metal. We just kept putting on points. We just wanted to do the little things that got us ahead in the first half.”
On the diversity of the running game:
“It is just a testament to our team. There are a lot of guys that step up. They are very athletic and they have done some great things.”
On converting on fourth down:
“It gave us a lot of confidence. Coach has put in a lot of work and they have not given up on us. Converting on fourth down was big. I always want to go for it. It was big for the momentum swing.”
On the defensive performance:
“They were huge. For our defensive to stop them down there, it was a very big momentum swing. Our defense had its back against the wall and they came through.”
On what the win means going down the stretch:
“Honestly, we are just taking one win at a time. Coach always says it’s a one game season. The current game is the most important game of your life; it’s the only way you can control, play in, and prepare for so we are not looking ahead past anybody. Miami is on the clock and that’s all we’re looking for.”
