Coach Boeheim Quotes - Bloomsburg
Coach Boeheim Quotes
Syracuse vs. Bloomsburg
Carrier Dome -- Syracuse, N.Y.
November 4, 2012
Opening Statement:
"I thought overall it was a really good first half. I thought Bloomsburg was patient - they moved the ball - they were smart - they hung in their awhile. We got a little bit better defensively at the end of the first half. We got some turnovers.
"I thought Brandon [Triche] played the way we need him to play. He was very aggressive and is certainly capable of playing like that. I think that was the best thing to come out of today.
"It was good to get Trevor [Cooney] out there. He has missed about 14 days of practice, so it will take him a little time to get back, but he'll have a couple days this week.
"We're looking forward to this week - the preparation and going to San Diego. It's a great event and it will be a great opening game for us. We're looking forward to that."
Can you talk about Rakeem [Christmas] and the development of his game offensively?
"I think that he's getting up and down the court good. He got down there a couple times today. He used his speed and I think that's something he can do."
In terms of Trevor [Cooney] are there any medical restrictions for him?
"No, he's fine. He had those 14 days he couldn't practice - 14 days, he could just shoot. Now, he is cleared to go, full speed."
Communication is one thing the players said lacked in the first exhibition game. How do you feel the communication was in terms of offensively?
"Well, I think we are getting better - it's early. I think overall, everything is where it would be normally, where you would want it to be at this stage of the year. I think it's good."
What can you learn from two games that you won by large margins like this?
"You learn something every time you practice, every time you play. Every time you get up in the morning, you learn something. Sometimes you learn more than others, but there's a lot of things than can be picked out of games. We had four, five minutes of tape on the first game. We'll have four, five minutes on this. There's always things you can work on. I think that one thing we stressed is not turn it over and I think we were much better at not turning the ball over today."
How do you feel about the way Michael Carter-Williams played these two games?
"I think he's good. I think he's playing good. He was smart today - I thought he made some better decisions - didn't force the ball. He pulled it out a couple times. Eight to two - Eight assists, two turnovers. We can live with that. That'd be good."
What role do you see Jerami Grant having as the season goes forward?
"Time will tell. Time will tell."
Not everyone gets to play on a ship. You've known about it for a while and now that it's getting closer, how excited are you?
"We're looking forward to it. We're excited. We're proud to be able to do it. I've been to the hospital. I was out there in the spring - went to the hospitals - saw some guys who were back from Afghanistan. I think it is a great event and we're proud to be a part of it and it will be a great game too."
What have you told the players about taking in the moment?
"We haven't talked too much about it. We'll talk as we go - as we get out there."
With a couple exhibition games under your belt, going into the regular season, how comfortable are you with your team right now?
"I think we've accomplished everything we could at this stage. I think they've worked hard. I think they're as prepared as they could be at this stage. It's still early - we've got a lot to learn, but it's a process - it takes time. We'll get into the non-conference season and see where we go from there."
How do you make the jump from games like this in the exhibition, to a team like San Diego State?
"Everybody does it. Everybody that plays a tough game early, they have a couple exhibition games and then you go. You work hard every day in practice. You're prepared. You don't want to be sloppy in these games and we weren't. We are prepared as we could be."
