Ernie Davis, Honorary

Ernie Davis remains one of the Orange's fabled gridiron heroes. He enhanced the "legend of number 44" as an All-American halfback and Syracuse's only Heisman Trophy winner. He was an integral part of the 1959 National Championship team as a sophomore and led the Orangemen to victories in the Cotton Bowl and Liberty Bowl. The number one draft choice of both the Washington Redskins and the Buffalo Bills, Ernie died of leukemia in 1963. He was inducted into the National College Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
