Pitt Quotes
Syracuse vs. Pittsburgh

Carrier Dome / Syracuse, N.Y.
Head Coach Paul Chryst
Opening Statement:
“Obviously, this is a good win. Not necessarily a pretty win, but guys fought. They fought all the way to the end and that you truly appreciate. We made a couple timely plays and that’s why we were able to get that win. Our guys put themselves out there and I appreciate what Devin Street did, going out there for a couple of plays and not being able to go any further. We had a lot of guys do that. It was a good win.”
On Aaron Donald taking over the game:
“That’s the mark of a great one. You truly find your eyes go to him. He sees it and he gives you the nod. More often than not, he comes through. It’s the mark of a great one. I think right now he is playing at that level. He impacts the game in such a big way and it’s pretty special to be around.”
On having more short drops and sideline passes today:
“We were trying to get the ball out. Tom (Savage) made some good decisions. He did a pretty good job on that. Talk about another guy worth mentioning, a guy that battles through and fights – he’s all in on this and puts it all out there. A lot of guys are, but when you talk about his play, you talk about a tough guy.”
On the blocked extra point:
“It was a great effort. A lot of the times the kick may be lower, but I’m going to look at it from our end and it was a tremendous effort. We got push all game. You talk about a big play and that was the first one. Guys were mentally tough. It was a pretty quick drive, so then to come back and keep playing, that speaks volumes.”
On the missed extra point changing the complexion of the game:
“I think it can change it. It depends on how the game goes. When it gets to be a close game, then it certainly may affect it. You just have to keep playing.”
Tom Savage, Senior, Quarterback
On the offensive game plan to deal with Syracuse’s pressure:
“It was to just get the ball out. They are a physical team and they blitz a lot as you guys can see. Just get the ball in our playmakers’ hands and make them miss. “
On the Pittsburgh defense:
“They did a great job. I think they went out there and they just locked them down. That’s what they did all year.”
On Pittsburgh defensive lineman Aaron Donald:
“It seems unfair almost. He’s a man amongst boys out there, and that’s no disrespect to Syracuse. They have a great team, but it’s tough to block Aaron. “
Aaron Donald, Senior, Defensive lineman
On his performance:
“I was just trying to get out there, trying to do what I can do to help my team win. I’m just trying to do my job. I play football. I try to play fast and do what I can do and when plays present themselves, I try to make them. It’s all I can do, go out there and do my job. “
On the blocked PAT:
“We watched film on it this whole week. I just got got under his pads and pushed him back and just got my hands up and got a piece of it.”
On his impact on the game:
“I went out there and did my job and tried to make a couple plays, but we did this as a team. A lot of players stepped up and made big plays on offense and defense, so it was a team effort. “
Tyler Boyd, Freshman, Wide Receiver
On the Pittsburgh game plan and his performance:
“The main game plan was to come in here and win. This victory meant a lot. It’s sending us to a bowl, so that was the main priority, the main reason we came here to play. They didn’t have me out there doing anything special. I just went out there and did my job, made plays when I had to and just stayed on track.”
On Kevin Weatherspoon and Manesseh Garner’s play in Devin Street’s absence:
“I trust Ness and Spoon. I know what type of players they are, so I know they weren’t going to just leave it all on me to make plays out there. Ness came up clutch in clutch time, made huge plays for us. If you’ve got two people rolling or three, you can’t just key on one, you’ve got to play them all. We all did a great job making plays.”
