Coach Boeheim Quotes
Carrier Dome – Syracuse, N.Y.
Opening statement:
“In the first half we really controlled the basketball. We were patient, we moved the ball, we made shots, and that’s when we’re at our best obviously. We really had good offensive movement and got open shots. We made them first and then they got four open shots that they missed. Then we got four and we made them, that’s 12-0. That could have been the other way, and it would have been a different game, but we were a little bit fortunate that they missed some easy shots and we made ours. It was a very good offensive first half.
The second half, it was just treading the water basically. Both teams scored and they had to press to get back in it – and you’re going to go the foul line a lot in those situations. The first half was really good offensive and defensive basketball for us and we got a little bit lucky that they missed some open shots.”
Coach, could you talk to us about the defense your team played on Bryce Cotton tonight?
“He hurt us in the first half up there. I think he hit six straight or something like that and he only made one in the second half, so we wanted to make sure we didn’t give him open looks. We did a good job with him – it opened up a little bit inside. Vincent (Council) did a good job getting in the lane, but we recovered pretty well and we did a good job finding him.”
Jim, the score was tied with 10 minutes to go in the half – what changed? What got you going?
“We had real good patience on offense. On a couple possessions, we made a couple – they had one or two good looks that they missed and we took it right down and scored. We got a couple transition baskets, Brandon (Triche) hit a three in the corner, and then James (Southerland) hit a couple, Trevor (Cooney) also made a couple real good shots. He got penetration each time he realized they were overplaying him and he got by and he made some good plays. I thought, he got some really good plays and the ball fell in for him. We just started to make shots and they started to miss shots – that’s what happens. They’re on a good streak, they’ve held people in the 50's four games in a row and won four in a row. They beat a couple of good teams in that run. We played well – we had to play well.”
Coach, Michael Carter-Williams had his first double-double since Rutgers, what was different for him tonight?
“I thought he got some people open, got some penetration and finally got guys open. We got some transition baskets which we hadn’t been getting, and a lot of his assists came in transition. Guys made shots when he got them the ball. He played really well – he played a really good basketball game.”
