Are you a Prospective Student Athlete? A prospective student-athlete by definition is a student who has started classes for the ninth grade. In addition, a student who has not started classes for the ninth grade becomes a prospective student-athlete is the institution provides such an individual (or the individual’s relatives or friends) any financial assistance or other benefits that the institution does not provide to prospective students generally.  In addition, it is important to be aware that a prospective student-athlete remains a prospect even after he or she has signed a National Letter of Intent or a financial agreement to attend Syracuse University. The prospect does not lose this status until he or she participates in regular practice or competition at Syracuse University or enrolls and attends classes, whichever occurs first.   If you are thinking about becoming a student-athlete at Syracuse University, or are the parent/guardian of a potential student-athlete, there are a few things that you should be aware of as you start the recruitment process. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has many requirements that must be met in order to ensure your eligibility for participation in Syracuse University Athletics. The Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete, put together by the NCAA Eligibility Center, contains many of the basic details that you need to know when starting this process.  Every college-bound student-athlete who is attending an NCAA Division I institution full-time for the first time must be certified academically and as an amateur by the NCAA Eligibility Center. Prospective student-athletes should register at the beginning of their junior year in high school and can do so by clicking here (hotlink to eligibility center website).
