Syracuse Student-Athlete Quotes
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Duke
February 14, 2015
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Michael Gbinije, Guard, Junior
Was this a frustrating loss for the team?
“It was frustrating. I personally played well tonight but we had turnovers that we couldn’t afford. “
Did Duke seem to surprise you guys in their second-half play?
“They jumped on us from the start and had it going in transition. Whenever we got them in the half court they did a good job moving the ball and found each other really well.”
Did Duke do anything differently in the second half defensively against you?
“During the first half I was killing it and just went after the ball. I came in with the same mindset in the second half but the game was just different.”
Tyler Roberson, Forward, Sophomore
How has your communication with Rakeem Christmas on the court improved over the past few games?
“If he is posting up I know I am going to give him the ball. He did a good job but he did miss a few shots. That happens.”
What type of game did you see against Duke forward Jahlil Okafor?
“He had a lot of easy baskets but he still played a good game. Overall he is a good player.”
What do you personally take away from this game given that it was one of your best performances in a Syracuse uniform?
“Personally, I played well and I have to take some of the things I did today and use it in games moving forward. I feel like we had two or three defensive lapses that cost us the game but I have to take those stops moving forward.”
Trevor Cooney, Guard, Redshirt Junior
Was Duke doing anything differently in the second half that led to the win?
“Our defensive rotation wasn’t good enough to get on their players and contest their shots. They were pushing on us more. They were able to get the ball and make open shots.”
How did it feel to play in a playoff atmosphere?
“It is good for the young guys to come out here and play in big games and have big situations toward the end of the game.”
What were your thoughts on Tyler Roberson’s performance?
“He was great. He found his spots and they were double teaming Rakeem (Christmas) a lot so he was able to get open and make his shots. He was active on both offense and defense. That’s what he can do.”
How did you feel about the loss?
“It’s just frustrating to lose. It’s just the way we are losing because we are right there. We just need one or two more stops and need to find a way to win close games.”
