Postgame Quotes
Tyler Lydon, So., F
How do you think the team played in the press against Le Moyne?
“I think that this team had its bright moments with the press and created turnovers and the press has its benefits. Tonight we didn’t play with a lot of energy. We can’t be doing that the rest of the season. We have got to work on that.”
Even though you guys were playing against a Division II team with the press, they are playing four guards so that has to be tough, right?
“Yeah. They are a good team with a bunch of good and smart players and we are coming in and trying to work on stuff for us.”
Did you get the Syracuse fans all worried when you didn’t hit that three?
“No. Hopefully that is just the sign that those misses are out.”
You struggled early on in the game, but you almost finished with a double-double. What offensive adjustments did you make during the game?
“None. I wasn’t able to make a shot tonight. I was getting good looks all game tonight and played aggressively. It is just a matter of knocking them down. What matters right now is playing through the game and improving as a team.”
Frank Howard, So., G
You have been able to take some contact -- what has happened between last year and now?
“Last year, I messed my body up by having mono. I played weak. I think that shows a lot. I was able to make progress tonight and will continue to.”
Especially in the lane?
“Yeah. Feeding my man and keeping up on the defensive end. Even more on the defensive end and beyond my shooting progress is made.”
Taurean Thompson, Fr., F
Since you have been here, you have taken a lot in so far?
“The feel of the game and the physicality. Day by day, I have to be the best that I can be and that can be tough.”
Defensively, have you found struggles more often?
“I have to recover. There were times that I was out of position and that I have to improve on.”
Andrew White III, RSr., G
How important are these games to get a feel for the Dome?
“It helps to keep our team in a rhythm and I think we improved on the offensive end, but we still have some improvements to make on the defensive end. Offensively, the big men did a great job of screening and the point-guard play was real good tonight. John Gillon and Frank Howard did a good job of finding my teammates and I to put our team in a rhythm.”
You didn’t have any hesitation on your shot tonight. Were you feeling more comfortable out there than you were last week?
“What really helped me was watching Steph Curry go 0-of-10 from three, ending his 150-plus game streak in which he made a three. Then he turned around the other night to hit 13 three’s and break the record. That shows what kind of mindset you need to be a great shooter. I was thinking about the Dome and how I could learn from that.”
Are you finding that the practices have been more difficult than the game thus far?
“One of my favorite things about being here is that no spot is safe. From the day I got here I was looking Tyus Battle face-to-face every day and he brings a lot of energy so I knew I would have to match that. I ask and expect the best of myself every day in practice just because I know that I have a good player against me every day.”
Tyus Battle, Fr., G
How do these exhibition games help prepare you for the season?
“It is a learning experience for the team, it gives us a chance to make mistakes early on, and try to fix those mistakes when the season comes. Guys like Andrew White started making shots when the game got close, and I personally know that it’s very tough to stop him.”
Do you think with guys like Andrew White pushing you at practice that the practices have been tougher than the games thus far?
“We have a really deep team, which helps us to get better every day at practice. I know Andrew’s a great shooter and if you give him space he’ll knock down shots, so when the game starts we have the confidence to make these shots.”
What do you think the team needs to work on as you get ready for Friday?
“We just need to focus on the scouting report. Today we had 11 three’s, so we need to focus on who the shooters are and getting the ball to them.”
John Gillon, RSr., G
How important are games like these, in order to get used to playing here at Syracuse?
“The games have given me the confidence to play in this system. I think the system fits me. The people around me along with the coaching help make me better every day.”
How important is it to have tough battles at practice every day in order to make the games easier for you?
“The past two games, I definitely have not played against people who are better than the guys I’ve played with in practice. This has made the games easier as I have long, athletic guys going against me every day at practice, so I have to find a way to score and get my teammates involved. When it comes to the game, everyone is going against someone who is not as good as who you go against in practice, which makes the games a lot easier.”
How excited are you to play in a real game on Friday in front of a real crowd?
“I’m very excited. I came here for that experience, and I’m hoping that all the work I have put in pays off on Friday.”
