Opening Statement:
“I thought we did a good job on our press. It sped up the game a little bit and it forced some turnovers. We’ve worked on it. I thought we did some really good things there.”
“The second half our movement was better. I think the freshmen relaxed a little bit and knocked down a couple shots. I think overall it was a good first step. Obviously, we have a lot of work to do but overall, they moved the ball really well and we did a good job reacting to it. The big guys made some blocks that they should make. But overall it was a good first step.”
Do you have a certain number of shots you want Tyus to take in the game?
“No, not really. You can’t really do that. We want him to get shots and he will get them. I’m not too worried about that because he will get shots up there. We had good opportunities.”
“I thought he and Frank did a good job. Frank made two or three bad turnovers but I thought he was active. He rebounded and he helped us back in there. There were not as many assists because we had to dribble against that type of defense, but I thought they were good.”
“I really thought the freshmen played well. I thought Matt did a good job with rebounding the ball. I think there was a lot of positives in this game.”
How do you evaluate Tyus (Battle's) play?
“I’ve seen him practice everyday and he’s improved. He didn’t make his threes, but he will make them.
Do you expect Frank and Tyus to lead the team offensively?
“Everybody is going to have to contribute. We have good players and they will all contribute.”
How much does it help to have bigger guys?
“I think that’s something you can’t judge by this game because we’re going to block shots, but we hadn’t blocked that many shots in a long time. These two guys are pretty good shot blockers. They’re not average shot blockers.”
“It’s a big factor and the threat of a blocked shot is a big factor. Our defense was good tonight. It wasn’t because we were bigger, we just did a good job covering people.”
How important are these exhibition games?
“Very important. We have young guys and these games make a big difference. They played really well against us. They moved the ball and they were scoring. We started moving better and covering better. This was a good first effort, but overall these games are very important.”
