Syracuse vs. Ole Miss

Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Tyus Battle, Fr., G
What is your biggest takeaway from this season?
“It was definitely a learning experience for me. We had a lot of ups and downs this season, but we kept on fighting and that’s what I love about this team. We just had a a lot of heart and we had a lot of fight in us.”
Disappointing result, but I think the fans they really responded to the player you’ve become from the beginning to the end of the season. Do you look at it as you became a more full version of yourself?
“I definitely grew a lot as a player this season. I definitely struggled a lot in the beginning. There were definitely some learning curves, but with help of the coaching staff and my team, I was able to come out of my shell a little bit more – be more aggressive and develop.”
The way the season ended -- kind of disappointing. Is that motivation to get better in the offseason and get the program to where it should be next year?
“Its definitely motivation, especially not making the tournament and stuff like that. I’ll definitely be working on the offseason and we’ll be ready to go next year”
John Gillon, Gr., G
Any thoughts on where you might play in the future?
“We’ll see. Obviously, everybody wants to play in the NBA. I know that’s tough. I’m going try to work out for some teams and just try to make it. This school put me in a great position and it’s helped me even have a chance to do that. So, we’ll see what happens.”
What do you think you learned this season?
“I just learned a lot about basketball, different aspect of basketball, and I got to learn under a great coach.”
Did you enjoy the season?
“I enjoyed it. I didn’t enjoy things about the season like losing, but I enjoyed the season.”
Andrew White III, Gr., G
How would you describe your time here?
“I’ve enjoyed my time here. It has been a great experience. Obviously the season will leave a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths because we didn’t maximize our potential, but that’s how it happens sometimes.
“Individually, I can’t be more grateful for being accepted into a program. I’ve been here with great people and that’s something that you can look back on when your season doesn’t go as anticipated or hoped for. Syracuse has been very good to me in the short amount of time that I’ve been here.
“On my way out I’ll just say that I’ve given everything that I could to this program for this one season. I’ve prepared everyday as if this meant the world to me because it did. I just hope that as I leave, people will remember me as someone who worked and gave their all in a short amount of time. ”
What would you say about John (Gillon) and the relationship you guys have built and what you tried to do this year?
“He and I will stay connected for life. It’s good to come in with somebody that’s on a similar path as you and we both had expectations that weren’t set too high. I think as individuals the two of us have exceeded the expectations. How you judge us is what your team does but him and I have overcome a lot of obstacles together and we got to know one another. I’m just glad to have a teammate, preferably a point guard that has been along with me on this ride.”
Tyler Lydon, So., F
What do you guys think you could have worked on defensively from this year and what was the focus, and how do you guys think you played on that end?
“At the end of the day it really came down to rebounding the ball, playing with energy on defense, and taking away the 3-point shot from the other team. There were a few games that you can go back to this season where we let them shoot the ball way too well. That’s hard. You aren’t really going to win basketball games that way.”
