Postgame Quotes
Elijah Hughes, R-Jr., F
What was your comfort level out there tonight?
“As soon as I got the first steal and dunk, I felt good. Going into it I was kind of nervous. I’m not going to lie. But it felt good.”
How does this first game back feel for you?
“It’s been a year-and-a-half since I’ve played so it feels good to play against someone else, instead of beating up on Tyus [Battle] and Oshae [Brissett] every day (laughs).”
Oshae Brissett, So., F
How did it feel to get back on the floor?
“Great. I feel like we started off a little slow but that tends to happen in the first game. But I felt like we did a good job picking it back up.”
How does this team feel different compared to last year?
“We definitely have more depth. I was able to get a breather today and then come in and do what I do, which really helps. The guys that are coming in are still learning, like Rob [Braswell] and Bourama [Sidibe], who didn’t get to play much last year. It really helps us having extra guys who can contribute.”
What do you take away from this game and how do you think you played?
“I felt like I played well. I think I picked up where I left off. Obviously, I had to dust off a couple cobwebs, but that kind of stuff is going to happen in an exhibition game. We aren’t quite used to playing someone else yet because we have been playing each other for a couple months now. I felt like we did a great job dialing in as the game went on. It wasn’t too sloppy. We picked it up on the defensive end and got a lot of steals that really helped us out.”
Buddy Boeheim, Fr., G
Getting your first start in a game, how did that feel tonight?
“It was exciting just being out there and I felt it really hit when I got on the court, in the starting lineup. Ever since practice yesterday or two days ago in the Dome it started to sink in that the season was coming. It’s just a dream come true playing out there tonight and I just wanted to enjoy it all and make sure I remembered every play.”
How did it feel to knock down that first jumper in the corner and get things going?
“It felt good. I missed my first shot, I wanted to obviously make that, but when you make a shot early it feels good – just got my momentum going and just focused on making my shots and doing what I can do to help (the team) win.”
You get the start tonight with some injuries. How cool was that when you hear your name and you get to go out there?
“It’s something that you’re going to remember – first game, even if it’s an exhibition. It’s just exciting to be on the court with those guys and hearing your name called is something that you dream about your whole life. It’s definitely a moment I’ll remember forever.”
Paschal Chukwu, Sr., C
What about that play diving into the stands?
“I went for it, and I saw I couldn’t catch it, I just tipped it and, looking forward, I just saw a whole chair in front of me. So my first instinct, I jumped over the first one and I didn’t try to land, I just let myself go, just so I don’t break anything and lucky for me I was fortunate not to get hurt.”
What’d you think about the rest of the night for you?
“I tried to go up and down. Of course it was the first game. We’ve been practicing but we haven’t really played an actual game. So everybody’s trying to find out what they can do well, where they fit in on the team, so I think that’s what it was for us – everybody just trying to do the first game and see what they can do well and help the team.”
