What made you play very aggressive today?
“I feel like once I got my first couple buckets in – it just showed they couldn’t stay in front of me. So I just tried to do that the rest of the game.”
What did you see from Tyus Battle today?
“I’m happy for him. Every player goes through a slump and these last two games, three games, whatever, he wasn’t playing well. I feel like he’s got his confidence back and we need it from him. He’s a leader on the team and I’m happy he was able to get out today.”
What do you remember about that first experience playing in Madison Square Garden?
“Just being there, you get a different a feel, a different vibe because you know what’s gone down in that gym. One of the greatest Syracuse players – Melo (Carmelo Anthony) - played there for a lot of years. That we’re able to go back there and play on that court – you feel it inside. I’m happy a lot of the new guys get to experience that. It’s kind of like a once-in-a-lifetime thing, really, playing in such a nice arena.”
Tyus Battle, Jr., G
What did you do to get yourself going again?
“A lot of shots. I took a lot of shots before practice, after practice, between classes just to get my rhythm back and watched a lot of film.”
What does playing the point change for you?
“I think just the last couple games I just wasn’t being aggressive enough. I wasn’t looking to score enough. This game, even though I was at the point still, I was trying to play my game, still at the position – come off screens looking to score and make things happen.”
What does the rivalry with UConn mean to you?
“It means a lot. The Syracuse and UConn rivalry has been going on for years. They have a new coach this year. He’s a really good coach and he has really good players, returning guys. It’s always great playing in the city, playing in the Garden so it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
What do you tell the other guys about playing in Madison Square Garden?
“I don’t think I need to tell them much. I think they know what it is. They grew up watching a lot of basketball, a lot of college basketball, a lot of Syracuse so I think they know what this game means. I know G-Mac (assistant coach Gerry McNamara) will be telling them a lot too.”
Elijah Hughes So., G
That was a tough team out there. What can you take from this game going forward?
“They were a tough team, they had scrappy athletic guards who get after it on defense. We just have to be better taking care of the ball in the first half and shoot the ball better, but I’m not worried about it. We’re going to get better”
When shots aren’t dropping you guys are able to get to the hole. Oshae Brissett had four and-1’s, you had a couple, how much does that open things up?
“When shots aren’t falling, you have to do other things like go to the basket and get to the foul line, which we can do.”
Paschal Chukwu, Sr., C
How do you feel about your performance tonight?
“I came out and the game plan was to be aggressive and do whatever coach asked me. I just went after defensive rebounds and I was lucky enough to get some.”
What does getting a block do for you?
“It charges me up, gives me energy. But it depends on the block. I really like when I spike it, that one fills me up with energy. Being a defensive stopper is one of my strengths so that’s what I try to bring to the team.”
