Syracuse Player Quotes - Miami
Syracuse Men's Basketball
Syracuse vs. Miami

Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Buddy Boeheim, Fr., G
How does your shot kind of change the pace of the game?
“I was watching the first couple minutes and my eyes lit up seeing that zone, knowing the open opportunities I would have when I got in. I just stayed ready and once I got in my teammates were finding me and getting me open looks. I was able to knock down a couple. It was a good momentum switch going into the second half.”
Have you changed your shot since non-conference play?
“Not my shot really. I’d say just more mentally I am ready for my shot and I’ve been working hard. I keep working hard and not letting anything let me down. My teammates believe in me and the coaches believe in me. That’s the most important thing for me.”
How does it affect the game when everyone starts shooting well?
“That definitely helps. Elijah (Hughes) had five or six threes. When Elijah gets going, he doesn’t miss many. Frank (Howard) shot well – he had a three in the first half. When everyone starts shooting well it opens up so much opportunity for us. It made them get out of the zone in the second half. It just helps us a lot as a team.”
Elijah Hughes, R-Jr., F
What did you think about your rhythm tonight?
“I felt like every shot was going to go in. I got good looks and my teammates put me in great spots to make shots and I just put in the basket.”
What gives you guys the confidence after some bad shooting performances that you guys are still a good shooting team?
“We just believe in ourselves and keep picking each other up. One guy is going to have a bad game and we just pick each other up.”
What does a performance like this do for the team’s confidence?
“It does a lot. It builds us up. Virginia Tech on the road is going to be a good one. We just got to prepare tomorrow and get ready.”
Frank Howard, Sr., G
How much confidence do you guys have going on the road?
“We’re confident overall right now. Coach has been telling us, Tyus (Battle) as well – the leaders of the team – play with that confidence. If we go out and lose – just leave everything on the court. We’re just playing good basketball and we leave everything on the court. We just understand everything is a dog fight right now.”
How has the team turned its shooting around from earlier in the year?
“Just with confidence. Coach sat us down and wanted everyone to stop overthinking it and wanted everyone to trust their shot. We all put in a lot of work each day. We are all good shooters. I don’t think we have one guy on this team who can’t knock down a shot. It’s just a matter of getting good ball movement and getting good shots for us. I think now we are just getting better shots and you see the results of that.”
Could Tyus Battle have had this game a couple seasons ago?
“No. I told him this game – it’s the most assists of his life. You watch his evolution as a player. He’s always trying to get better. That’s the part of the game he’s expanded. That’s just going to open up everything for him. He can make the easy pass when he’s getting double-teamed or find guys. That’s really when he gets dangerous.”
