Syracuse vs. Florida State

Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Oshae Brissett, So., Forward
You had nine rebounds in the first half and only a couple in the second half. What did they (FSU) do differently in the second half, in terms of rebounding, to make you less effective?
“Nothing really. I feel like a lot of their shots were going in and weren’t really bouncing my way. I was still down there and still fighting. In the second half, Marek gave a great effort and he got a couple. I wouldn’t say they did anything too different.”
You guys pulled within one point of taking the lead a couple of times in the second half. What makes this FSU team so tough to close in on?
“They are a great team and know how to attack. They never stop and they are really relentless, honestly. They never slow down and they have guys coming off the bench who know what they have to do, which is keeping the energy up. It’s tough to beat a team like that, especially when you start down like we did. I feel like once we get that close we need to find the little things we have to do to take the lead.”
Tough loss tonight, but back-to-back double-doubles for you. What is going right for you individually the last couple of games?
“I’m just attacking and staying aggressive with the same mindset that I do. I’ve really switched my style of play, and now I am trying to attack off the dribble and get to the basket. I’ve been able to finish better, so I’m trying to use that to my advantage.”
Frank Howard, Sr., Guard
What went right when cutting the lead?
“We were just making shots and getting in the lane and making plays. We defended better too, I think that’s really what it was.”
There have been a few games where you guys have fallen behind early. What do you guys need to do to make that not happen?
“We just need to come out with better energy and come out ready to go. We can’t allow them to be aggressive.”
Elijah Hughes, RJr., Forward
Offensively, what has been the struggle when the team is going through tough lulls? It seems like when you guys play a team like Virginia Tech or Georgia Tech that likes to get up on you, it seems like you guys struggle.
"I knew we would be fine when we got down early. They are there and like to put pressure on you, but we need to get better at it."
You have Boston College, who you beat last week, coming back here. What did you learn that you can use against them on Saturday?
"They really shoot the ball at a high rate. (It’s important) finding them and transitions on the open court."
Tyus Battle, Jr., Forward
Do you think it was difficult to summon the same sort of energy that you did after coming back from a 20-point deficit?
"It was tough, we have to do a better job keeping it closer and taking the lead. We worked hard to get it back but but we have to do a better job. We had some defensive errors and they had a couple fast breaks which extended the lead. Once you come back and they extend the lead again, it’s hard to get back into it."
After a good first half, they got to you in six minutes in the second half. What was it that they did differently defensively on you?
"They clogged the lane up more. They had a hard edge that made it tougher."
