Notre Dame Head Coach Mike Brey Quotes
Opening Statement:
“That was an unbelievable college game. I came out on the better end of it, but I still would’ve said that. It was two skilled teams – shots going in, people passing the ball – but I think we had a little bit more firepower. This was great for our group because we haven’t been able to finish one away from our building in tough atmospheres, but to get this one, hopefully we can grow from it.”
Have you ever seen two teams make three’s like that?
“I’ve never been in a game like that, and if you’ve been following our program or Syracuse’s program, it is usually one-sided when someone is making. Both teams combined were 15-for-31, and my thing in the huddles down the stretch was that we had more firepower and to keep firing because we weren’t going to stop them. They made big bombs, we made big ones, but we just had to make a few more. (John) Mooney was a physical specimen doing what he usually does.”
Do you think John Mooney’s physicality was a difference in this game?
“Yes, he’s been physical all year. He’s the best rebounder in the country, and he was good at the foul line. As a team, we did a good job of getting the ball to him from the foul line down to the base line, but we’re the best passing team in the country. We had 26 assists and Syracuse had 20. That’s how the game should be played.”
What would you say about Prentiss Hubb and how he became a lightning rod for the team and firing up Joseph Girard III?
“He did deserve the technical. One thing I do love about him is he’s a fighter and fearless, and he showed that. The technical was a little bit of his fearlessness going overboard, but I don’t ever want to curb it because he made big shots and wanted to make big shots for his first time playing in this building. Girard got going, and the shots (Buddy) Boeheim made were amazing, too.”
