Syracuse Player Quotes
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Wake Forest
February 8, 2020
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Quincy Guerrier, Fr., F
Did you play with more drive and conviction in this game than the last one?
“No, it’s just a matter of Coach Boeheim telling me to play physical every day, play with a lot of energy, and that is what I did.”
You did a good job getting on the shooters as well. Is that something you’ve been working on?
“Yes, last game I gave up too many rebounds off the baseline, and today I was really on the shooters, and not giving up the baseline for a rebound. I think I am getting better on defense, but I still have to keep working.”
Do you think that is a message you are trying to relay to the younger guys as well?
“Yes, Jesse (Edwards) is learning right now. Everyone is learning right now. There are five freshmen on the team. Everyone just needs to keep working hard and keep thinking about what we need to do to help the team to win. If we keep doing that, we will get better. Every day I feel like I am getting better personally, and I think our team is getting better also.”
How happy are you for Brycen Goodine to get that last shot?
“I am very happy for him. He doesn’t play a lot and just to have the buzzer beater, it means a lot.”
Brycen Goodine, Fr., G
What was going through your head during that shot?
“I didn’t know if it was going to go in. It rolled around for a second. I couldn’t really see the ball but I could see the hoop. That was my first game winner. I still don’t believe it.”
What is the mindset going in to a game when the team is having foul trouble?
“I’ve been prepared. We had a whole week to practice so I was just getting ready for the game. Whenever I got in, just to make a play on both sides of the court.”
Buddy Boeheim, So., G
Can you talk about the team’s comeback?
“It was a tough game from a tough team. We had them up 16, next thing you know it’s a two-possession game. They hit some tough shots and (Andrien) White’s a really good shooter. We keyed in on him well and did a good job. They’re a tough team – they were up 15 to Louisville the other night so we knew it was going to be a tough one. For our young guys to be able to come in and be active like that was huge for us and they help win that game.”
What do you have to say about that final shot by (Brycen) Goodine?
“He’s been working hard and Jesse (Edwards) really set him up with the tip and he’s in the right spot to finish. I’m really happy for him. Those two guys are working really hard for us and I’m very happy to see that it paid off for them.”
Elijah Hughes, R-Jr., F
What do you think about that play from Brycen Goodine?
“I’m way out back at the three. I’m watching the ball go around and then I see it drop and I can breathe. He deserves it, and he works really hard. It was really huge for us. Brycen and Jesse (Edwards) came in and Jesse got some big deflections and big-time rebounds.”
Is it something you guys actively pursue late in games to get to the foul line?
“I’m just trying to attack. I just want to be in attack mode all the time. I kind of had a cold stretch for a little bit, so I just try to be in attack mode. Looking back on that last play I probably should have gotten in the lane and either forced a foul or made a play.”
