Syracuse, N.Y. - Sheila Rinozzi, a former University of Iowa standout, joined the Syracuse University Women’s Rowing program as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator on Aug. 5, 2019. Rinozzi comes to Syracuse from Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) foe Louisville where she spent the past four seasons, serving the last two as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator.
Rinozzi was a four-year letterwinner for the Hawkeyes where she was named First Team All-Big Ten as a junior and senior. She was awarded the Robert F. Ray Faculty Representative Award and was a Big Ten Conference Distinguished Scholar Award recipient. Upon graduation, Rinozzi spent the summer with the United States Rowing Association as a national team programs intern.
She began coaching in 2010 as the varsity women’s assistant coach at Loyola Academy Rowing Association before moving to Boston, Mass., to work as an events and operations coordinator at Harvard.
In 2012, Rinozzi returned to her alma mater as a volunteer assistant coach. A year later, she became the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Indiana. In her two years in Bloomington, Rinozzi coached the second varsity eight to a bronze medal at the 2014 Big Ten Championship and helped guide the Hoosiers to the first and second NCAA Championship appearances in program history.
Rinozzi made the move to Louisville in 2015 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2017. Louisville’s 2019 recruiting class, the final group recruited by Rinozzi, was one of the strongest classes in program history.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in interdepartmental studies-health sciences from Iowa in 2010 and completed a master’s of education in intercollegiate athletic leadership from the University of Washington in 2012.
