Andrea Smith joined the Syracuse softball staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2017-18 season.
The Burlington, Iowa native and University of Dubuque graduate joins the staff after serving as an assistant softball coach at Southeastern Community College for the 2016-17 season.
At Southeastern, Smith was primarily responsible for the offensive and outfield drills. She helped improve Southeastern’s 13-21 2016 record to 30-20 in the 2017 season. Under Smith, two outfielders received Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) honors, which included an ICCAC Defensive Player of the Year recipient.
After playing two seasons at Southeastern CC, Smith completed her collegiate career at Dubuque. As a senior, Smith was an Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention Outfielder and an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete selection.
She was a two-time Dubuque Spartan Softball Award recipient and was named a co-captain her senior year.
Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in sports marketing and management for Dubuque in 2016.Â
