Michael Steuerwald was named to the Syracuse coaching staff in the summer of 2019 and served in that role until summer of 2021.
The Orange posted a 10-10 record in Steuerwald's inaugural season in charge of the pitching staff. The season was cut short by the COVID-19 global pandemic.Â
Steuerwald joined the Orange after spending a year as Associate Head Coach at Utah Valley University. Steuerwald has more than 10 years of coaching women's professional fastpitch and over nine years of experience coaching collegiate sports, both men and women. In 2019, he was the Senior and Junior Team USA Selection Softball Trial Coach and helped a National Pro Fastpitch Championship coach in 2009, 2011, 2015, 2016, and 2017. In 2010 and 2013, Steuerwald was a part of the National Pro Fastpitch Coaching Staff of the Year.Â
In addition to Utah Valley, Steuerwald has spent time at the collegiate level on the coaching staff for Elon University, Cuesta College, and Rockford. At the professional level, he has worked at Scrap Yard Sports, The Village of Rosemont, the Chicago Bandits and the Rockford Thunder in a variety of coaching and administrative roles.
Steuerwald earned his degree in physical education from Marantha Baptist College in 2005.
