Syracuse swimming really is a family affair and Ellie Walker is a prime example. Married to Orange head coach Lou Walker, Ellie is in her 17th year as an assistant with the SU swimming and diving team. She coordinates Syracuse’s recruiting efforts, handles the team budget, acts as alumni liaison, arranges alumni reunions and coordinates all team travel. Walker was instrumental in landing four high school All-Americans during her career.
Walker’s coaching experience includes 14 years with the Syracuse Chargers club team, as well as two seasons at Baldwinsville High School. While coaching the Chargers, Walker worked with a number of junior and senior national qualifiers and finalists. She is still involved with the Chargers as the coach of the group’s masters swim club.
As an undergraduate at Syracuse University, Walker was a letterwinner for the Orange women.
Lou and Ellie Walker have three children - Jacquelyn, Stephanie and Lou III. Jacquelyn graduated from Syracuse in 2004 and was a four-time women’s lacrosse letterwinner and team captain her senior year. She graduated from the Syracuse Law School in 2007. Stephanie competed for the Loyola College women’s lacrosse team in Baltimore and is teaching and coaching lacrosse at Bedford High School in Manchester, England, while Lou III played lacrosse at SUNY Potsdam.
