Two-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Maggie Koch was a member of the Syracuse staff from 2008-11 as an assistant coach after a standout career as a goalkeeper at Georgetown.
In her fourseasons on the Orange sideline, Koch was instrumental in the development of senior Liz Hogan. Hogan earned the 2010 IWLCA Goalkeeper of the Year award after leading the nation in saves with a school-record 211. Hogan became the first goalkeeper in program history to earn All-America honors when she was named to the first team. In addition, she earned the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year award and was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team for the third consecutive season.
After transferring from Drexel University to play for the Hoyas, Koch earned the starting spot her junior year. That year she was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and collected first-team All-America honors. Additionally, Koch was a Tewaaraton award nominee and was named the IWLCA Goalkeeper of the Year. She led the nation in save percentage and ranked second in goals-against average. In her senior year, Koch, a team captain, again earned the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year award and was selected to the 2007 All-BIG EAST First Team and was a first-team regional All-America selection. During her time at Georgetown, the Hoyas won or shared the BIG EAST regular-season title three times(2005-07).
In addition, Koch has devoted some of her time off of the field to young lacrosse players. She has spent her last four summers as a lacrosse camp counselor.
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Koch earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Georgetown in May of 2007.
