After enjoying a four-year playing career at Syracuse and a one-year stint professionally overseas, Erin Little returned to the Orange in 2013 as an assistant coach. In the spring of 2016, Little was promoted to associate head coach and served in that role until April 2019 when she accepted the head coach position at SUNY Cortland.
As a coach Little was part of a coaching staff that led the Orange to the programs' first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018. Syracuse compiled a 19-9 record on the way to a fourth place finish in the ACC and an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. 'Cuse defeated Yale, 3-0, in the first round of the tournament before falling to eighth-seeded Penn State in the second round. Under the guidance of Little and the Orange coaching staff, Syracuse produced two All-Americans in one season for the first time in program history.
Little was also an integral part of the 2017 season that produced the biggest single-season turnaround in program history (15 wins). After finishing the 2016 season 7-23 overall, Syracuse returned to finish 2017 with a 22-14 record and make its first postseason appearance with a bid to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC). The Orange advanced to the quarterfinals.
In her first season with the Orange, Syracuse went 16-16 and 11-9 in its first season as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. After initially being picked to finish 12th, the Orange tied for fifth in the conference.
Little was as a member of the Orange squad from 2008-11, when the team compiled an overall record of 80-47, including a pair of 20-win seasons and three trips to the BIG EAST Tournament. While at SU, Little was a solid student-athlete, earning honors both on and off the court. During her senior season, the outside hitter was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the week of Oct. 24 after helping the Orange to a perfect 3-0 week, while totaling 35 kills, 13 digs and eight blocks.
Equally impressive, Little is the most recent SU volleyball player to be recognized on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team five times. Additionally, Little’s academic achievements placed her on the Syracuse Athletic Director’s Honor Roll a total of nine times.
Following an undergraduate B.S. advertising degree in the spring of 2012, Little traveled overseas to play professionally in Finland with the club Orpo. Little starred as an outside hitter and helped her team win the Finnish bronze medal. Since arriving back in the U.S., she has spent time coaching with the Iroquois-Empire Volleyball Association High Performance program, a part of USA Volleyball’s “Olympic Pipeline.”
