Over the past few weeks, head coach Ange Bradley has continually announced her class of 2017. Previously, she announced Claire Cooke, Borg van der Velde, Sarah Luby, Isabelle Sumichrast and Emma Likly.
Florine Hogendoorn, a midfielder from The Hague, Netherlands, who won a Dutch National Championship with the HGC club is the latest addition to the Syracuse field hockey team's 2017 recruiting class.
"Florine is a quick smart attacking midfielder with great ball control and vision," said head coach Ange Bradley. "She has the ability to eliminate both off the dribble and pass and likes to score. She is extremely competitive and has a tremendous work ethic. Her love of the game is contagious and I am very excited to begin working with her."
Hogendoorn played for head coach Yara Casteleijn and HGC, which took home the national league championship in 2014 as a U16 team with Hogendoorn.
"I've always played in the highest league of the Netherlands and Syracuse is a top university in the ACC and NCAA," Hogendoorn said. "From the moment I talked to Coach Bradley, I knew I wanted to become part of the Syracuse family because of their ambition and professionalism."
At Syracuse, Hogendoorn will major in health and exercise science in the school of education because she has always been interested in the human body and how it works and responds to exercise.
Hogendoorn's individual goals at SU are to continue to grow as a player both technically and physically while also developing her leadership skills, hoping to continue to develop as an all-around player to contribute to the team's success.
"For me, it is an honor to be able to represent the Orange and know that Coach Bradley believes in my capability as a member of the Syracuse family," Hogendoorn said.
Hogendoorn says the Syracuse player she most wants to emulate is her country mate Lies Lagerweij, who earned NFHCA First Team All-America honors last season. Hogendoorn admires Lagerweij because she thinks she is a gifted player who she could learn a lot from as a player and leader.
The daughter of Liliane van Heijningen and Martin Hogendoorn, Florine has two brothers, Tim and Chris.
She is excited to be part of the Syracuse field hockey program and work towards continuing the program's success and has a tremendous passion for the game.
"I enjoy being part of a team and working jointly to reach a common goal," Hogendoorn said. "Being a field hockey player defines me as a person and it is a great part of my life. Playing hockey allows me to balance academic achievements with physical challenges. Playing the game makes me feel happy."
