Syracuse men's rowing alumni Forrest Sears '19 joined the staff of his alma mater as an assistant coach in September 2021. In August 2022 he was promoted to full-time assistant coach.Â
In his new role with the Orange, Sears is responsible for assisting Head Coach Dave Reischman in the day-to-day operations of the program with increased coaching, recruiting and administrative responsibilities. Â
Sears made his return to central New York after earning a Master's Degree in marketing and brand management from Oxford Brookes University in England. While at Oxford Brookes, Sears competed for the university boat club, though the 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19.Â
In his first season back on Lake Onondaga, helped guide the Orange to one of their most successful spring seasons in the last two decades. The Orange ranked as high as No. 6 in the country with the varsity eight earning a fifth-place finish at the IRA Championship Regatta.
Sears graduated from Syracuse in 2019 with a degree in political science from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. In his two years at Syracuse, Sears was a fixture in the Orange varsity eight, helping 'Cuse to two top-10 finishes at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship, finishing in eighth (2018) and ninth (2019), respectively. Sears also served as team captain his senior year.Â
He began his academic and collegiate rowing career at Binghamton University where he was a member of the club team before transferring to Syracuse before his junior year.Â
