Rutgers dropped to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the BIG EAST. The loss snapped the Scarlet Knights five-game winning streak.
Sophomore forward Guido Cristofori (Fairport, NY) scored the game-winning goal in the 38th minute when he beat Rutgers goalkeeper Ricky Zinter. It was the first goal that Zinter allowed in 459 minutes, and ended the Rutgers shutout streak at five. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Hall (Great Falls, VA) provided the assist for his first points of the season.
Freshman Kirk Johnson (Chester Springs, PA) continued his offensive onslaught with an insurance goal in the 74th minute. Johnson took a long pass from sophomore defender Chris Aloisi (North Babylon, NY) and deposited it in the lower left corner of the net. Johnson now has two goals and two assists in his last three games. He leads the team with eight points.
Senior goalkeeper Kevin Bacher (East Meadow, NY) earned his third shutout of the season, making four saves. He had plenty of help from his defense as the Orangemen backfield cleared two Rutgers shots off the goal line. Zinter made six stops for the Scarlet Knights.
Syracuse takes a break from BIG EAST play when they travel to Cornell for a key New York Region matchup on Wednesday, October 4. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
