Junior forward Michelle Aronowicz (Exton, PA/Downingtown) gave Syracuse a 1-0 lead at the 13:47 mark of the first half. It was her ninth goal of the season and sixth in SUs last seven games.
Her sister, Kristin Aronowicz (Exton, PA/Downingtown) upped the score to 2-0 when she scored off a penalty corner with 3:04 remaining in the first half. Seniors Colleen Cech (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and Laura Fitzpatrick (Dalton, PA/Lackawanna Trail) got credit for the assists.
In the second stanza, Cech netted an unassisted goal at the 24:12 mark. Her direct hit was tipped in by a Brave defender. Fitzpatrick closed out the scoring by corralling a rebound and hitting the ball to the far post with 3:45 left in the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Audrey Latsko (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) recorded her sixth shutout of the season (eighth career) with five saves. Sarah Mathers made nine saves for the Braves.
The Orangewomen improve to 12-6, while Quinnipiacs record is 8-10.
Syracuse (2-2 BIG EAST) is fighting for a spot in the Nov. 4-5 BIG EAST Tournament in Storrs, CT. The Orangewomen get to take a preview trip on Saturday, Oct. 28, when they play the first-place Huskies (4-0) in the final game of the regular season at 12 p.m. SU is currently in a three-way tie for second place with Boston College and Rutgers. The Eagles and Scarlet Knights will square off against one another next Saturday. An added wrinkle is that Providence is in the mix by virtue of its 2-3 league mark. The Friars beat Rutgers, 2-0, and Syracuse, 2-1 in overtime just last Friday.
