It was the sixth time in his career and the fifth time this season that Mungro crossed the 100-yard barrier. He gained 131 of his 136 rushing yards in the second half. Mungro carried the ball 16 times in the game. Browns 90 yards were on 14 rushes. Mungro and Brown each scored two touchdowns.
Temple took a 2-0 lead at the 4:53 mark of the first quarter when a Syracuse punt was blocked into the end zone. The ball rolled out of bounds for a Temple safety. Cap Poklemba added a 35-yard field goal with 1:59 remaining in the quarter, increasing TUs lead to 5-0. Mike Shafer scored SUs first points on a 27-yard field goal at the 5:37 mark of the second. Browns three-yard rushing touchdown with 4:08 left in the half gave Syracuse a 10-5 lead.
Mungros first rushing touchdown was the only score of the third quarter. He ran the ball a game-long 36 yards on the play, increasing the SU lead to 17-5 with 12:35 left in the period. Tanardo Sharps brought Temple within five, 17-12, on a 33-yard scoring run at the 13:18 mark of the fourth. The Syracuse backfield struck for two more touchdowns to seal the victory. Brown rushed 15 yards for a score with 7:42 left and Mungro scored on a 20-yard run with 2:34 remaining in the game.
R.J. Anderson completed 4-of-14 passes for 62 yards, including a game-long 40-yard pass to David Tyree. Maurice Jackson recorded two catches for 11 yards.
The defense forced three turnovers. Quentin Harris and Jameel Dumas each recorded interceptions and Diamond Ferri recovered a fumble. Harris led the squad with 11 tackles and Dumas posted seven. Duke Pettijohn added one and one-half sacks. With 24 sacks in his career, he moved into second place on SUs all-time chart.
