On the defensive side, Syracuse sophomore linebacker Clifton Smith led both teams with 15 tackles.
Miami's first score was a 23-yard Todd Sievers field goal with 10:45 left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Hurricane running back Jackson capped a 77-yard scoring drive with a five-yard run for the game's first touchdown. Miami led 10-0.

Jackson scored his second touchdown of the night on a 33-yard run. Miami took a 23-0 lead into the half.
The final score came with 12:04 left in the game when Sievers kicked a 33-yard field goal.
