
Syracuse Tops West Virginia in BIG EAST Showdown

It was the first career touchdown for Campbell, who finished with two catches for 30 yards. The pass marked the second touchdown strike of the day for Anderson, who made his first collegiate start at quarterback.
Syracuse scored on its first two drives of the day. Anderson connected with Dee Brown on a five-yard scoring pass with 11:13 left in the first. Anderson carried the ball four yards for a touchdown at the 6:21 mark of the first, giving SU a 14-0 lead. Shawn Terry returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for West Virginias first touchdown.
The Mountaineers struck in the second quarter on a 20-yard field goal by Jon Ohlinger, making the score 14-10 with 11:59 left. Mike Shafer answered with a 21-yard kick with 2:26 left. Ohlinger hit a 50-yard field goal with no time remaining, but Syracuse held a 17-13 lead.
Wes Ours put WVU on top 20-17 on a five yard touchdown run with 4:18 in the third. Brown gave SU the lead, 24-20, on a 16-yard scoring run at the 10:01 mark. Cobournes 20-yard run with 8:16 left gave the Mountaineers a 27-24 advantage, before Anderson threw the game-winner to Campbell.
Anderson completed 18-of-33 passes for 203 yards. Anderson hit nine different receivers, led by Browns career-high five receptions and Maurice Jacksons 59 yards. Jackson tied a career-best with four catches. Brown carried the ball eight times for 96 yards.
Rickie Simpkins and Morlon Greenwood made six tackles each, while Will Allen picked off his first two passes of the season.
