Orangemen Soccer Drops Season-Opener To Boston University In Overtime, 3-2
9/1/2000 4:46:39 PM | Men's Soccer
The Orangemen scored the first goal of the game only seven minutes in when Chris Aloisi (North Babylon, NY) went top shelf off a pass from Mario Cristofori (Fairport, NY). Mark Richardson answered for Boston with a goal from in front of the net. The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 into intermission.
Syracuse again took the lead when John Andrade (East Providence, RI) slid one in the bottom left corner 12 minutes into the second half. Aloisi and sophomore defender Chris Fehrle (Hatboro, PA) were both credited with an assist. It was Fehrle's first career point, and Aloisi's three points on the night are one short of his total from the entire 1999 campaign.
The Orangemen clung to a one-goal lead until David Fahey headed a ball into the bottom corner with only five minutes left in regulation. Andy Dorman provided the assist, his second of the night.
Millers game-winner came off a pass by David Fahey, giving the Terriers a 3-0 all-time series lead.
Despite the loss, the Orangemen outshot Boston, 16-12. Goalkeeper Kevin Bacher (East Meadow, NY) made five saves. Boston keeper Duncan Kirkpatrick also made five saves, including three in the second period.
Syracuse returns to action on Wednesday, September 6 when the Orangemen open the home portion of their schedule versus Villanova. The game is also the BIG EAST opener as the Orangemen are the only team in the league to play just one game before jumping into conference play. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Soccer Stadium at The Lampe Athletics Complex.
