Fitzpatrick Scores Game-Winning Goal In Double-Overtime Against Fairfield
9/10/2000 9:58:20 PM | Field Hockey
The Stags (3-1) got on the board first when Emilie Hugenholtz converted a penalty stroke with 12:36 remaining in the first half. Fairfield was awarded the stroke when a player on a breakaway was tackled from behind by a Syracuse player. Hugenholtz sent her shot to the bottom left corner on SU goalkeeper Audrey Latsko (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus). It would be the only goal Latsko would allow in the remaining 65 minutes of play.
Junior forward Michelle Aronowicz (Exton, PA/Downingtown) tied the score at 1-1 at the 25:04 mark of the second half.
Latsko made a career-high 21 saves. It marked the sixth-highest save total in school history, with the single-game record being set by Cheri Herr in 1992 with 25. Latsko made 11 stops in the second half, mostly on the 12 penalty corners that Fairfield attempted in that half.
Syracuse (4-1) was outshot by the Stags, 27-17. Fairfield held a 14-11 advantage in penalty corners.
The Orangewomen are home again on Wednesday when they host Colgate at 7 p.m. at Coyne Field.
