SU Sweeps Top Three Singles Flights at SUnity Life Classic

Senior Michelle Neveklovska (West Vancouver, British Columbia) won the the Flight One singles crown, defeating Brooke Rubin of Providence 3-6, 7-5, 6-0. Classmate Zuzanna Borucka finished third in that flight, defeating Daniela DelPrete from Cornell (6-3, 3-6, 6-2). Neveklovska and Borucka teamed up to play doubles in the tournament. They lost to another Syracuse doubles team. Sophomore Shervin Saedinia (Woodland Hills, CA) and Masha Kabanova (Moscow, Russia) defeated Borucka and Neveklovska 8-7 (7-5 tiebreaker). Kabanova defeated her doubles partner 3-6, 6-3, 6-0, to win the second singles flight.
Junior Katie Thompson (Wesley Chapel, FL) won the Flight Three singles bracket, defeating Laura Leigh Tallent of Cornell in straight sets 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Jess Schlosser (Nedrow, NY/CBA) finished third in Flight Four, winning her match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Classmate Margot Ahlquist (Shrewsbury, MA) placed fourth in Flight Five singles, losing to Providence's Emily Wenink 7-6(2), 6-1. Freshman Alexa Konstand (Akron, OH) also placed fourth, losing to Ilissa Strolovitz of Albany 6-4, 6-3 in the Flight Six bracket.
The doubles team of freshmen Zani Suttle (Roswell, GA) and Schlosser won the third-fourth place match in Flight Two doubles action. Suttle and Schlosser beat Kelli Provenzaro and Jen Smalley of Colgate, 8-4. The doubles pair of Ahlquist and sophomore Tricia Sargent (Hamburg, NY) finished second in the Flight Three doubles bracket, losing to Piper Lucas and Nicole Chiu of Cornell, 8-2.
The Orangewomen's next competition is at the Old Dominion Tournament October 6-8 in Norfolk, VA.
