Volleyball Wins Eighth Consecutive Match

Ole Miss won the first game, 15-10, but Syracuse (8-3) rallied to take the next three 15-6, 15-10, 15-1. Senior Dana Fiume (Island Park, NY) led all players in the match with 20 kills. Classmate Julianna Stokes (Naperville, IL) and freshman Michaela Skelly (Simi Vally, CA) had nine digs apiece to lead the Orangewomen. Syracuse outblocked Mississippi 15-5, lead by senior outside hitter Julie Nicholson (Horseheads, NY) with six and junior middle blocker Jing Jing Wang (Beijing, China) with five. Fiume and senior outside hitter Julianna Stokes (Naperville, OH) each added four.
The Orange tallied seven service aces by six different servers. Junior setter Noreen Carroll (LaGrange, IL) was the only player to have two. She also set assists in the match.
In action from late Friday evening, Syracuse defeated Memphis 3-1. The Orange won game one and two, 15-1 and 15-7. Memphis won game three, 15-10, before Syracuse won the match, 15-12, in game four. Fiume had 16 kills, while Stokes added 12. Skelly served four aces and had 10 digs.
Syracuse resumes play at 5:30 p.m. Saturday against Mississippi State with both teams final match of the tournament.
