The Syracuse mens soccer team (0-1-0) will make its home debut Wednesday night versus the Villanova Wildcats. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at The Soccer Stadium at The Lampe Athletics Complex.
The Orangemen are coming off a 3-2, double-overtime loss to the Boston University Terriers last Friday. Sophomore midfielder Chris Aloisi led SU, scoring his first goal of the season and adding an assist. Junior midfielder John Andrade also scored for the Orangmen. Sophomore defender Chris Fehrle and senior midfielder Mario Cristofori each contributed an assist. Preseason BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year Kevin Bacher made five saves in the defeat.
The Wildcats come to Syracuse fresh off two victories over the holiday weekend. Villanova upended St. Josephs, 3-2, on Friday and then defeated LaSalle, 4-1, on Monday. Villanovas two wins match its total from all of 1999.
Senior Joe Noonan leads the Wildcats in scoring with two goals and an assist. Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Jim Curtin is one of five Villanova players with one goal each.
The game is the BIG EAST opener for both squads. The Orangemen are the only team in the conference to play just once before opening league play.
Syracuse leads the all-time series 7-2-1, including a 3-0-1 record over the past four years. Villanovas last win over the Orangemen came in 1995. Last seasons game 2-1 double-overtime victory sparked Syracuse to a six-game winning streak.
Admission to game is $3 for adults, $1 for SU students, and children under 18 get in free.
